Thanks for the question. We actually have several different size boxes to accommodate our many different size puzzles. We don't, however, have anything that is brand new. We start at a smaller 3x3x3 all blue box - the smallest Tricks and Teasers fit in this. It jumps to a 3.5x3.5 for the small Traditionals and slightly larger Tricks and Teasers, then goes to 4x4 up to a dress size box. Most have the green trim, but a few are all blue.
We used to use an all green box with a shorter lid, but the paper didn't hold up as well. You may see some of these boxes on the older puzzles that pop up on eBay.
Hey Paula, I'm glad we are in agreement here. We actually sound like we know what we're talking about! :) Did I just say that out loud?
Nate, I'm glad we could clear that up and as far as sounding unhappy about your box, no no. I only threw that out there because we have some puzzlers who are very specific about what size boxes we use for their puzzles... to the extent that the top might be bulging off. I think it has something to do with storage space. Anyway, we aim to please...
Hmmmm well that's good to know in case I start running into storage issues. It is true that this box will not stack nicely with my others, since I have no others like it so far...
hmmm, I just looked you up in the database. If we're looking at F.Flake it won't fit in a 3 x 3 but if you would rather have it in a 4 x 4 instead of the 3.5 x 3.5 we can easily do that. Will that work for stacking purposes? Or better yet.... order some more puzzles that will fit in your new size box! Geez, I'm clever.
Gee I hate to sound so picky, but a 4x4 replacement box might be nice (I have a few of both 3x3s and 4x4s already). I definitely appreciate your awesome customer service!
And regarding buying more puzzles, let me tell you how hard it was to resist your 2 for 1 offer today and yesterday!!! I have been gnashing my teeth at the fact that I didn't wait a couple of days to buy F. Flake, which would have qualified since it was in stock (though at a higher price I realize, but still...). Argh!
Hmmm, what's going on here? We have what we call a 3x3 which holds most teasers and traditional puzzles up to 75 pieces and we have a 3.5 x 3.5 which holds the 100 piece traditional puzzles and larger teasers then we move on up to 4 x 4, 6 x 6, 7 x 19 and 12 x 15. We've been using the 3.5 x 3.5 for 6 years, I think. What do you usually get? Sometimes a puzzle will be printed a little larger than need be so it has more pieces. When that happens we sometimes have to bump the box size up so we aren't cramming it into something too small. Or a Teaser puzzle with 75 pieces could have large Teasers so it has to fit into the 3.5 x 3.5. (I guess what I'm getting at is there is always an exception to the rule at Stave!) If you would prefer a different box please let me know. We would be happy to send you one. Something just occurred to me. Was it you that got the photo puzzle of your kitties? With their names cut in? If so, it could be the names of the cats are too large to fit in the smaller box so it had to go in a 4 x 4 or something. We don't like to cut names up if we don't have to. Does this sound like it could be the situation.
Oh I see! I guess I just didn't know about the existence of the 3.5 x 3.5 in. boxes before! It was just that previous puzzles with similar estimated piece counts I've gotten came in the 4 x 4 (I think) boxes, so my question was really just a matter of curiosity. So I guess you guys just use which ever box is filled but not overfilled by a given puzzle?
Sorry if I gave you the impression that I was at all unhappy with the box I got! I'm not! Thanks for your prompt responses!
Oh - no problem Nate. I didn't get the impression you were unhappy at all. In fact, I thought it was great question and one we don't get to address often. Thanks again and Happy Puzzling!
