This is great! Anyone else have something to add? I'd also love to hear how others 'rate' themselves. The 'weekender' and 'cocktail hour/kitchen clean-up' analogies crack me up!

Hmm, maybe we've under rated this puzzle, as well. Should the marbleized paper puzzles and the snowflakes be rated 3 swords instead of 2???

Thanks for getting this up here, Cindy. J.T. of VA came to our 35th Shindig and she was telling me she thinks the flakes are rated too low. She's a great puzzler so I put great value on her feedback. Can anyone else chime in? It can be thoughts abou…

Hi Jennifer, I can understand why you would make this suggestion. He was an incredibly creative person. Probably one of the most ever to set foot on this earth. I'm not really seeing an MJ puzzle in our future, though. First and foremost, I would w…

This one cracks me up. I'm saving it for when I can do my 'alternative' catalog some day. It will have all those puzzles and names that are a bit too racy or irreverent. ;)

Jennifer replied to the discussion 'What a tweet'
Hi Russ, Did anyone from the Stave gang get in touch with you regarding What a Tweet? I was just checking around the site and came across your note saying you didn't realize it was a Trick puzzle when you bought it. If you're finding it's just not a…

What's your favorite puzzle and why?
I love the Traditionals. It's so much fun to see what clever things the cutter has done with the silhouettes. And that Ah Ha! moment when you find the piece you've been searching for is great. Traditionals are relaxing and fun.
Which Puzzles Do You Own?
Too many to list. Come on over and puzzle!
Meet other Puzzle Nuts near you by telling us what town and state you're in.
I live in Thetford, Vt, about a 15 minute drive from the Stave Puzzle shop.
Which puzzles are on your wish list?
Anything by James Christenson or Scott Gustafson. I love their wit and whimsy.
When and where do you puzzle?
My husband is a puzzle fanatic so we almost always have a puzzle on the table in the library/puzzle room. If I had my way it would be my scrapbooking room but I'm not getting my way on that one! I get to puzzle are work sometimes, too.
What got you into Stave Puzzles?
I worked with someone who's mom worked at Stave and he suggested I apply here. I had never heard of the company nor did I cut puzzles but it sure sounded fun! 20+ years later I'm still here!
Tips for solving Stave Puzzles: Want to share?
Think outside the box! Expect the unexpected!
About me: Interests, fave books and music etc
Married, have a son and a daughter, both off to college. Silence is NOT golden!

How much wood?

What a great uTube video! Thanks for sharing that with me, Jeanne. When I was around 10 my family and I raised a pair of woodchucks that had been orphaned. It was so fun to bottle feed the little critters. We called then Chucker and Grundoon. (I think she grunted a lot when she was eating.) It is an experience I will never forget. Must be why I love our Stave mascot so much!

what happens in vegas

Hello fellow Puzzlenuts,
Jennifer from Stave, here. I'm wondering if any of you wild and crazy folks out there can help me out. I'm not sure where the best place is to post this so I'll try it here. Gee, it's not really puzzle related so maybe I shouldn't even be putting it on the site. I am going to be starting my own blog on our site but it's not quite ready yet so I can't do it there. Here's what I need... I'm going to Vegas in late October/early November with 2 girlfriends and we are trying… Continue

Yes, I'm coming to Blackberry. I only just learned about the event thanks to June posting the particulars here on StavePuzzleNuts! I was fortunate to get a room as the main house is entirely sold out so I ended up in one of the cottages! I've never been (or even heard of Blackberry Farm) but am most excited about attending and meeting everyone! See you this weekend!

Oops, i clicked the comment back button and addressed your 'why can't i go in the cutting room' question... i hope you can find it. I'm not sure if we met or not when you came for a tour. I don't give many tours any more but if I'm in the vicinity when visitors are here I tend to give my 2 cents every now and again. Our puzzlers are some of the best people in the world and it's great to be able to meet them. What do I do here? I have been at Stave for over 20 years so I tend to do a lot of everything. I started out as a Crafter (still my favorite thing to do) and now I oversee the running of the Production area. I also make it my business to razz Steve as much as I can. Over the years he's gotten pretty good at giving it right back to me! I will tell you that I still enjoy coming to work. I am so thankful to have a job that is fulfilling, fun and appreciated. Steve and Martha have created a very special place for us all to spend or working years. I'm glad you had the chance to stop by.
As for Larson, I love the wacky humor, too. His stuff could always make me laugh. Calvin and Hobbes is another comic that I find funny but in a different way.

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, Gary Larson was not only wildly creative, he was also very funny, both in his captions and his images (especially the monsters). His wackiness is the type of wackiness I like about the Stave Teaser puzzles I've acquired.

BTW, it appears that you work at Stave. I actually toured the facility about a month ago and I might even have chatted with you, depending on what you do. I have a question: why wasn't I allowed to enter the cutting room?

Jennifer,
You asked about armchair treasure hunts. That's where you do a treasure hunt from home and try to determine the location of a prize. But you don't have to buy a shovel and a flashlight and then go digging up the countryside. You just post your solution online (or mail it in). I guess it can also refer to a real treasure hunt where there is a real prize you have to go get, but you have no intention of ever going to get it - you just enjoy trying to figure it out and collaborating with others, regardless of who ultimately does the digging. See the free "Menagerie" puzzle at www.dillonwaugh.com for a good example. There's an entire online community trying to find that prize. Goofy stuff to be sure.

Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for reading my PuzzleNut! I will be adding some exciting news to my page this month. I'm glad you shared the story about your father with me. I have lived with brain trama all my life, and it is very different from having to adjust to a brain tumor when an adult, because a person has to learn a new way of living. I am sure your father can agree with me, that a family's love and support is the very best medicine. A support group to share stories with is also great. I am a member of The Brad Kaminsky Foundation For BrainTumor Research, TBKF.org. I am honored to speak in behalf of brain tumor warriors. I will email you with personal stories that have helped mold me into the proud survivor I am today. (; -)

hello again,
I was wondering if you could help me. I emailed to info@stave.com on Monday and I haven't heard back yet-I know you guys are so busy with this past weekend and the contest too-I have a question about the first challenge of "Nessie"-(I know you work there and I AM sorry to ask this of you)-I guess that my 'puzzle-junkie' is coming through-I'd like to work the puzzle but I AM confused on what the challenge itself is. OK, now, if you can help me, I was wondering if there was an email address that I could send my solution to(I am not sure it IS a solution, or if I've puzzled myself into a corner-haha)-the reason I'd like to email you is that I do NOT want it published for everyone to see in case someone else is working 'Nessie'-I don't want to ruin it for them. I will send you the same email I sent to info@stave. I appreciate your time and help-I really do! Thanks again-JESS

Jennifer,

My new friend Ted informed me that only 41 of the intended 50 Treasure Islands were made as Andrea left Stave before the series was complete and more can't be made as Andrea has the plans but Stave owns the copyright. I don't know if it's possible or for that matter legal, but if Stave want to borrow the puzzle to finish the series they would be welcome. As good luck would have it, we finished the puzzle almost as soon as we received it and identified THE key within the required timeframe to claim the treasure chest. We still have the treasure map as well.

Hey-I REALLY appreciate your advice on "Venice By-Ways"-I really do. I am so glad you suggested trying "Nessie"-(which I get Tooooo-Daaaaaay!) first, and of course I look forward even more now, to one day owning "Champ" & "Empress Pearl"-your opinions and advice have REALLY helped. I'll admit that the first thing I look at in the morninig is what Whacky Wheel Deal is going on, and I think that I should order another puzzle NOW, so that I have one ready and waiting for me when I finish "Nessie". But then part of what I love so much about Stave is that it's NOT an 'instant-gratification' type of thing. For me, puzzling makes me slow down, center, focus-it's calming....(except for the interuption of a few curse-filled-table-pounding-hair-pulling-sweat-wiping-stand up and declare "THAT'S IT! I QUIT!!" moments).....yeah, puzzling can be relaxing. So, My Most Admirable Staver, I THANK YOU-I am very grateful and I can not say what it means to me to 'talk puzzles' to someone, and not see the glazed over look in their eyes, hoping for a topic change. I know 3 people in Nashville, My boyfriend, my brother, and my 7yr old niece. So, 'talking' to you has been so nice. Thanks again-and I'll ask your advice again sometime if it's ok? Thanks a LOT for your time-I am so grateful.
Love & Peace-
JESS
