In reply to Davids suggestion for a puzzle based on a Koi pond thought you might like to know that just such a puzzle
was introduced back in 2001 called Pond Play. An absolutely stunning design I regret to say that it is not a teaser
but a 4 lightning bolt trick puzzle. Perhaps it is still available.

David, I am so impressed with your design idea! You even remembered to include a 'break-away' in the frame of the puzzle. Nice! I, too, think a koi fish pond puzzle would be beautiful. Getting the frame just right is key. It has to really look like something so when someone sees it on the catalog page they can instantly recognize what it is. Let's keep brainstorming!

OK, you speak we listen! Betsy Brown has been assigned the challenge of creating a beautiful, challenging Koi pond Teaser puzzle. Be warned though, this is a long process so you won't be seeing it for a while. I'll keep you updated on our progress. Thanks for the great input. Also, I haven't forgotten the library/bookshelf idea. I just need to pick the right artist for it. Again, I'll keep you posted.

When I think of the Trick & Teaser puzzles, I think of lots of items all jumbled up and stacked together. Like a garage! If any of you are like me, you never have enough room in your garages for your cars. In fact, in our latest residence, we converted the garage into a '50s/'60s style dinner with some modern touches (of course). It is actually very ecclectic. The garages in our former homes had all sorts of things in there. Sporting equipment (bikes, sports balls, even exercise equipment), boxes of things we never got around to unpacking, old furniture, toys & games, a drumset (or two or three). An attic would also be good for this idea, but not as recognizable unless you include the entire house. With the garage, the frame of the puzzle could be the exterior of a two-car garage with the doors up. I see lights mounted on both sides of the garage and some landscaping around it as well. Perhaps for a laugh there could be a part that juts out to the side showing a car parked outside. Another idea could be a post office. Lots of postal workers and customers, boxes and letters stacked up on the desk(s) and maybe a mail box or two (the large blue ones that you see outside) with mail overflowing out of them.

You guys are great! I wonder if we can get a area on this site where people can write in what types of puzzles they would like to see. That way they would be all in one area and others could easily see what has been suggested in the past before making their suggestion. Cindy/June... is this doable? Puzzle ideas are endless but it sure seems as if they are hard to come by some days. I would love to hear what all of you have in mind. Keep 'em comin'!

I agree that David Boeren's koi pond suggestion sounds GREAT! The pond plants would be interesting as well. Possibly a fountain to add a 3-D element that Satve does so well! I also think it would be more recognizable as a koi pond with a fountain. Just a suggestion.

A puzzle series based on the movie "The Beatles, Yellow Submarine". Released in the 1960's the original story was written by Lee Minoff, based on the song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and the screenplay penned by four collaborators including Erich Segal.

"Yellow Submarine" is filled with great animation, perfect for Stave Teaser Puzzles. The movie is entertaining and so would be the puzzles.

You're in luck! We have a yellow submarine Teaser puzzle. It is really cute. Bright and fun, has colorful fish, musical notes, etc. It was in an older catalog but I'm not sure if it's on our site. If you would like to see a photo of it I can send you one. Just let me know!

Stave's version of the Yellow Submarine IS online in the Teaser section.I actually did this puzzle with my 12 year old son, who caught on to the clues of what to do with the water pieces before I did.

Like the sound of the Koi design, and very interested in the catalog update rounding up the Limited Editions.

A couple of other ideas.

* a teaser that is a pirate's treasure chest, with the treasures inside the chest outline.
* a dinosaur dig, with lots of bones to fit into the right spot
* a trick puzzle involving trains and train tracks, and getting several trains to the correct destination
* a yacht race puzzle, with a few 3d yacht pieces
* a solar system/planet design

Boy, you are right on track. I've been working on a pirate theme but heading more towards the ship as the frame with pirates and 'booty' as the teaser pieces. I try to get the frame of the puzzle to be a strong feature, allowing for instant recognition on the catalog page. The ship shape seemed to be stronger in that way. I see a few parrots in there, too, don't you? I like the dinosaur idea. I'm wondering if there is a way we could have the bone pieces work in two ways. One solution is to have the typical frame (what is that? a big pile of dirt won't do) and the bones all next inside every which way. But then there could be a second solution where you remove the bones and they can be connected to make a the actual dinosaur shape. What do you think? If we can nail this idea down I think Dee Rogers would be the artist for the job. We did a limited edition train track puzzle years ago. It was called Huff and Puff and Jennife Brown was the artist. I'm kind of fuzzy on the details but I know there were tricks in the tracks and probably the train cars, too. I don't think we did a specific destination thing but that would work well for a trick puzzle on a smaller scale than what we did. I'll add that to my list and talk with Steve about it. Sadly, I can't design trick puzzles. I've been thinking I should push my brain and make myself tackle a simple design but man, those puzzles really hurt my head! The yacht puzzle is in the works. I have it being tested right now. It does not, however, have any pop-ups. More of a traditional type teaser. Now for this solar system design... tell me more. How do you see it developing? Keep the ideas coming, Sebastian. And all you others reading this... join in! You're a great help!
