New Frenzied ePuzzle Prototype: Whaddya Think?

Steve Richardson, owner of Stave Puzzles, builds a crude prototype of a new puzzle gimmick. It's tested by a few and then cultivated or dumped! He's trying this process out on a digital puzzle idea. Here's your chance to see how Steve's mind works and to help him refine this new ePuzzle.

Good point. Right now I am just messing around, using any 'old' image. My plan is to change the images once/week and introduce one new puzzle pattern once/week... so stay tuned. Steve

The first time through the pictures didn't appear for quite some time (may just be my computer), and I couldn't separate the puzzle into pieces, so it was frustrating. Second time worked much better! It wasn't clear at first that it was the same piece rotating until I clicked it -- I thought I was missing some and that added to the "frenzy!"

I didn't even realize I was getting muffs when I separated the pieces. If you click fast enough, you can still break 100.

I agree with Sebastian about clicking the "landmarks" in the puzzle without knowing what the shapes are. My other observation is that the randomness of the flashing piece has a lot to do with the difficulty, especially with few pieces. One time I had the same piece six times in a row. I had begun to think I was clicking the wrong one, but my Muff Count wasn't changing!

That was definitely tougher. Especially the last image with small irregular pieces. Great improvement.

Think you could up the challenge even further by keeping the shrinking piece moving about in the right hand section once it is the smallest size. It would be harder to focus on matching those landmarks if the piece is moving.

Much more challenging, and it is far more difficult to break 100. The last puzzle is definitely the most challenging though I did get distracted by the artwork (looking at the cat and dog) and ended up getting a time over 100. The puzzles with four pieces are quite easy. I like the idea of different shaped pieces with each progression. I would suggest the first 'wave' being puzzles of four pieces and like it is now each 'stage' with different shaped pieces. The next 'wave' would be puzzles of five pieces and again with each 'stage' with different shaped pieces. With each successive wave add another piece. One other area of difficulty is to have the puzzle on the left spin counter clockwise while the piece on the right spins clockwise.

After several trials, probably at least 20, I finally scored a total of 98 (with only 5 muffs). The puzzles do
increase in complexity and the lack of separation between the pieces certainly increases the challenge. I
finally learned that it was not worth a 'muff' point for the sake of taking precious time to pull the pieces apart.
Figuring the first or second piece that matches in the middle on the last puzzle and then pulling that puzzle piece aside greatly shortens the reaction time and increases success.

Hi Jeanne, Congratulations on hanging in there and scoring 98... impressive! I like your strategy about pulling out center piece(s).
