You can help design a Stave Treasure

Last week Paula, Jennifer, and I sat around the table in Steve's office and began conjuring up a concept for a new Stave Treasure puzzle.
The TREASURE line of puzzles includes Treasuretrove and the puzzle, Palace of Pranks. These puzzles were created in celebration of over 30 years of puzzling. They contain a combination of the most devious, intricate, and tricky elements (of the Trick and Teaser puzzles) together with the artistry and elegance of our Traditional puzzles.

So here is our concept of a new Treasure puzzle with a theme of life in the city. Don't laugh, this is REALLY how the puzzle design begins. Isn't it pretty with those little stick figures?
You can be part of the design process since we will be asking questions about what you want to have included in the puzzle and give you the opportunity to vote at various stages of the process. For instance, the first thing to vote on is whether we should include a museum or a zoo in the upper left corner of the puzzle. Keep in mind that what you choose will dictate some of the design possibilities.
Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions here and stay tuned for details about voting and emails keeping you up to date with the progress of this design.

DESIGN DECISION #1: SHOULD THE PUZZLE CONTAIN A ZOO OR A MUSEUM?
CAST YOUR VOTE HERE- http://stavepuzzles.com/resources/poll2.php

Hi all!
Here's an UPDATE on the progress of this project

As you may have already guessed, Museum won the vote but just by a slight margin! There has already been a lot of discussion and great ideas about the kind of museum and exhibits that should be included in the puzzle. We've chosen Molly Delaney to be the artist and she is anxiously awaiting the next phase of this design. Molly is the artist of the Stave Limited Edition Riddle Puzzles Peter Pan & the Irate Pirate, Dickens of a Christmas, and Twain Foolery. Please be patient while we move to the next phase of designing and keep in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day. This is a looooong process. We promise to keep you updated and will definitely be asking for more of your suggestions and showing you snippets of what artwork we have completed as we move along.

For now, I'm starting a museum photo album and everyone is welcome to upload photos of their favorite museum or exhibits for all to see. Plus this will give Molly more inspiration!

You can upload your photos to StavePuzzleNuts.com by going to the Add Photos page. If it's your first time uploading photos to our site, you'll be asked to "trust" the application that makes uploading photos easy. Please accept the application. Nothing will be downloaded to your computer. Once you've uploaded, I'll put them into the Museum Photo Album.

Thanks for all the help and great ideas. Keep them coming! Thanks!

Did you forget the statue? Every city has a statue!!! That could be a 3-D element in the museum yard. Perhaps where you have the jazz band..., you could have an outdoor concert in a park-like area. Most cities have parks and that would kill two birds with one stone. I see lots of 3-D elements in this one: traffic light, statue(s), trees, vehicles, fire hydrant and animals in the zoo!!! Looks like you need a bridge over that waterway too.

I love the idea of a zoo; must be a live animal thing

Hmmm...a subway/metro comes to mind too, but that might be an entire puzzle in itself!

community garden - maybe even a tribute to Bette Midler for all the good work she's done for New York City!! Farmer's Market, bird watchers, Hawks on Fifth Ave ledge, and more gardens...

I like the idea of a museum rather than a zoo. How about mass transit winding throughout the piece? Some neon lights and a park would be good, maybe with a concert going on , a playground, a pond with ducks, runners, etc? Show apartment buildings, laundry on lines strung off the fire escapes, and pigeons, there has to be pigeons!

If this is your template why not use the top 20 cities diverse locations. For example I live in Saint Louis (does anyone else have an Arch?) then you could really tap into the city RCGA's for the money for design. Each separate location could provide incentive for their image to be on the puzzle. Jim Connett

I voted museum because it seems to lend itself well to double-decker (or triple-decker) design and could possibly accomodate secret passages and/or corridors with trick perspectives.

With all due respect to the Big Apple-lovers out there, I'm not fond of NYC. I live about an hour from it and seldom go there--I could explain why at length, but I don't want to be too negative.

If you're looking for specific cities as a basis for design, how about Amsterdam, London or Munich? Those are all interesting places that offer variety, beauty and mystery.

If you want ideas for the night life section, how about a theatre district with some of those garish live girls joints safely hidden in the background--hee-hee!

I would love to see a museum There are so many animal based puzzles (which are so delectable) - any way to incorporate some of the recognizable museum features in a teasing and tricky fashion?

A museum would be a great addition since so many of your puzzles are focused around animals. For a twist, though, it should be a science museum with a T-rex/dinosaurs, cavemen or planetarium.

I vote for a Museum in the city. I personally don't like to see wild animals locked up in Zoo's. A museum with an outdoor grassy park, with many trees, for people to enjoy, especially kids.

Definetly should have a zoo in the upper left, much more opportunity for teasers that way. Outdoor music venue in the lower left, i.e. HatchShell in Boston, MA.

Perhaps you should look at the directories that Disney & epcot put out for inspiration

Museum!!!! Stave has lots of great puzzles already with zoo animals and other creatures. Museum, Opera, theater.......yes pleaaaazzzz! I love my home in NYC and can walk to a ton of museums but I recommend using museums in Boston as a guide!!!!!! And natural history museums or the Smithsonian could make it fun. Don't assume art museums!!!! There are plenty of art traditional puzzles already. Although, the Isabella Stuart Garnder Museum in Boston would be a fun model.....But the relatively new America Indian Museum in Wash DC would too.............
